District of Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz is part of the old Jewish quarter of Seville. After the Reconquista and joint with the present district of San Bartolomé, Santa Cruz formed the second largest concentration of Jews in Spain. In the late fifteenth century they were expelled and the neighborhood fell into disrepair for a long period.
During the French occupation, Santa Cruz was reborn. In 1811 the old parish of Santa Cruz was demolished and replaced by the current Square which gives its name to the neighborhood.
